During peak periods, demand for travel increases significantly on many routes. Airlines have announced increased flights, and railways have added trains and carriages.


Airlines increase flights


Despite the aviation industry facing difficulties with fuel, airlines are still striving to maintain stable flight networks and arrange additional flights to meet the increased travel demand during the peak periods of the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day and the April 30th - May 1st holidays.

Vietnam Airlines allocates resources and increases flights to meet passenger demand, while maintaining domestic and international air connections. The airline recommends that people plan to book and issue tickets early. Vietnam Airlines continuously monitors market developments to adjust flight operations flexibly and safely.

For the upcoming holiday season, Vietnam Airlines Group plans to offer over 1.1 million seats on domestic and international flights, a 15.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. On the domestic network, Vietnam Airlines will operate over 3,800 flights, providing more than 730,000 seats. The increased capacity will focus on routes with high demand between economic centers and tourist destinations.


On routes between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang, the number of seats offered will increase by nearly 30% compared to normal, while the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route will see a 12% increase. Flights to tourist destinations will also be increased during this period, with routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang and Phu Quoc increasing by nearly 20%.


On the international network, airlines plan to operate nearly 1,700 flights with almost 390,000 seats.


Recognizing the increased travel demand, Vietjet Air is also continuing to increase flights on routes across Vietnam, with nearly 3,800 flights during the period from April 25th to May 5th.

Vietjet's total number of flights during this year's peak period increased by 500 flights, equivalent to 16% compared to the same period last year. The total number of seats offered during the peak period of April 30th - May 1st was 832,000.


A representative of the airline stated that flights were concentrated on routes with high domestic travel demand, such as those to and from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Hue, Quang Binh, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa, and Phu Quoc.


Railways added trains and carriages.


On the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, the Thong Nhat passenger trains, including SE1/2, SE3/4, SE5/6, SE7/8, and SE9/10, maintained daily operation with 5 pairs of trains. The operating unit added SE11 and SE12 trains during peak days at the end of April and beginning of May, increasing transport capacity on the North-South axis.


On regional routes, many trains still run regularly, such as Hanoi - Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City - Phan Thiet, Hue - Da Nang, and Hanoi - Vinh (Nghe An). In addition, a number of trains have been added on key tourist routes.

The Ho Chi Minh City - Quy Nhon route will add SE29 and SE30 trains during peak days. The Ho Chi Minh City - Nha Trang route will add SNT3, SNT4, SNT5, and SNT6 trains. The Ho Chi Minh City - Phan Thiet route will have an additional SPT3/4 train.


The Hanoi - Lao Cai route will maintain 3 pairs of trains daily. The Hanoi - Hai Phong route will operate 4 pairs of Hoa Phuong Do trains, with plans to add 6 more trips and extra carriages to meet passenger demand.


According to the Vietnam Railway Transport Joint Stock Company, the number of passenger train tickets sold during the April 30th - May 1st holiday period is 44,200 (statistics based on tickets sold from April 29th to May 3rd).
