This is a ranking by Lonely Planet, a leading global travel magazine, which recently announced its list of the 15 most worthwhile destinations in Vietnam in 2017. Hoi An ranked first, Phong Nha-Ke Bang ranked second, ahead of Ha Long, Hue, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Hoi An was highly praised by Lonely Planet for its unique ancient town, recognized as a World Heritage Site with its well-preserved ancient architecture, and for consistently ranking among the top 10 most popular tourist cities in the world for many years.

Along with possessing An Bang beach – one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet – and numerous high-end resorts, Hoi An has solidified its "unique" position among the 15 most worthwhile destinations.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang, a prominent World Natural Heritage site in Vietnam, has been recognized twice by UNESCO (in 2003 and 2015). It's considered a paradise for adventurers and nature lovers, home to the oldest karst mountain system in Asia, formed approximately 400 million years ago, with thousands of majestic and magnificent caves and a miraculous underground river system of outstanding global value.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang is notable for its cave system, ecotourism destinations, historical and war relics, and nature exploration activities such as hiking, cycling, etc. With rapidly developing infrastructure and diverse, high-quality tourism services, visitors need to stay at least 3-5 days to fully appreciate the beauty of this destination.
